Occupational First Aid Level 3          ( Used to be called Industrial First Aid )

This course is designed for workers who are interested in becoming a first aid attendant in high risk workplaces.  The course is made up of in class theory and practical sessions. Our fully experienced first aid attendants when intructoring incorporate real life situations into every class, so when you leave at the end of the course you are better prepared to deal with what awaits you in real or on the job.  Upon successful completion of the course students will receive a WorkSafeBC OFA Level 3 certificate.  Also a great course for the general public looking to have a skill in the event of a disaster.

Course Summary:

  • Demonstrate the priority action approach to the completion of the secondary survey.
  • Demonstrate critical airway interventions with C-spine control and use of oral airways.
  • Identify respiratory emergencies and perform critical interventions with oxygen therapy equipment including pocket mask, bag valve mask and suction equipment.
  • Identify circulatory emergencies and perform critical interventions including one and two operator CPR.

  • Identify, assess, treat and refer to medical aid as required:                             
    • eye injuries
    • soft tissue injuries
    • environmental emergencies
    • poisons
    • ligament and tendon injuries
  • Demonstrate complete patient packaging for spinal immobilization with use of back boards and hard collars.
  • Demonstrate immobilization principles (splinting) for major limb injuries (fractures & joint injuries).
  • Be familiar with the required paperwork (first aid record & patient assessment sheet).
Certification: valid for 2 years upon successful completion of the course

Time: 80 + Hours (Class time: 8:00am - 4:30pm)

Classes are limited to 18 students

A medical exam ( form ) is required prior to receiving a level 3 certificate. Students should do some pre-reading and complete some of the homework assignments prior to class time. Text books and work books will be available at the time of registration.

Level 3 candidates between ages 16 and 19 years of age:
Successful candidates of level 3 will have a restricted ticket until they are 19 years of age. Restricted ticket holders must work under the supervision of an unrestricted ticket holder.
